Hip 561, a son of GI Belmont S. winner Union Rags, lit up the ring in Timonium Tuesday when selling to Michael Lund Petersen for $925,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Sale thus far. Bred in New York by Avanti Stable, the juvenile is out of the Tale of the Cat mare Tanglewood Tale. Purchased for $90,000 by Brad Grady’s Grand Oaks at the Fasig-Tipton NY-Bred Sale, hip 561 was consigned by Bobby Dodd Tuesday.

MORNING LINE COLT SELLS FOR $300,000 AT FT MIDLANTIC

Lane’s End stallion Morning Line saw his biggest sale yet this week when a colt out of Latitude Forty went through the ring at Fasig-Tipton Midlantic. Consigned as hip 310, the colt was purchased by Turnpike Partners for $300,000, becoming the highest-priced two-year-old of the year for the Lane’s End Stallion.

SWITZERLAND WINS THE MARYLAND SPRINT

Switzerland took his record for the Steve Asmussen barn to three-for-three by scoring his first black-type victory in the Maryland Sprint. The bay dueled Red Dragon Tattoo (Bellamy Road) through an opening quarter in :22.94 over a foggy and rain-soaked Pimlico main track. Taking control through a half in :45.69, the $500,000 EASMAY buy charged clear under a hand ride from Ricardo Santana, Jr., to score. It was the third stakes win of the day for Asmussen and Santana, who captured the James W. Murphy S. with Tap Daddy (Scat Daddy) and the Chick Lang S. with Mitole (Eskendereya).

It was a case of mission accomplished on Thursday as freshman sire Noble Mission emulated his year-older brother Frankel by getting off the mark as a sire with his first runner.
Cunco won a 6f maiden at Newbury in May 2016 for Frankel, while On A Session was a runaway winner for Noble Mission at Lyon Parilly, winning the Prix des Hortensias maiden over the minimum trip.

After a solid start to his two-year-old sales career at the Fasig-Tipton Gulfstream Sale, Noble Mission (GB) saw his success transfer across the Atlantic with his first European auction. The multiple Group 1-winning Champion had one colt sell at the Goffs UK Breeze-Up Sale. That strapping chestnut, who is out of Grade 2 winner Sarah’s Secret, fetched £75,000 from Stroud Coleman Bloodstock. The Lane’s End stallion now boasts a two-year-old sales average of $140,244 and a median of $112,988.

Drawing even with the pacesetter on the backstretch run, she traded blows with that rival down the lane and was joined by Miss Sunset (Into Mischief) and Lewis Bay (Bernardini) to the outside in the final sixteenth.
